Pancreatic cancer

Most pancreatic cancers are treated with combinations of chemotherapy, surgery when resectable, and radiation in selected cases. Irreversible electroporation has been investigated as an adjunct in borderline or locally advanced tumours that cannot be fully resected upfront.

What IRE might add

The intent in published protocols is often cytoreduction at the interface between tumour and vessels, or extension of local control after induction chemotherapy, not a substitute for systemic treatment. Complication profiles include pancreatic fistula risk and need for high-level surgical ICU support.

Patient selection

Imaging review by pancreatic surgeons, radiation and medical oncologists is essential. Trials and registry data differ by era and technique.

See IRE (NanoKnife) for the generic technology description.

This site does not quote survival benefit percentages for pancreatic IRE because pooled outcomes depend heavily on neoadjuvant regimen and patient selection.

Considering focal therapy?

You can ask for a second opinion on imaging, diagnosis and treatment options before you decide.
